Building Program
We're "making space to share"! Join us for a kickoff celebration on Saturday, May 1, 6:30 PM to 8 PM, in the Parish Hall and Sanctuary.
Our Challenge
St. Matthew's is in need of more space to accommodate more attendees at our services, more participants in our many activities, and more parishioners to know and share in God’s love.
In support of expanding and improving our building and grounds, there is a need to accomplish the following:
- Continue to seek input on types and amount of space needed for our church
- Plan and design the renovation and expansion of our building and grounds to increase and optimize space
- Develop and implement a phased building program for the near and longer term
Building Committee
Mission
The Building Committee serves the vision and mission of Saint Matthew’s by addressing the physical space needs of the congregation. The Committee seeks input from parishioners on building and grounds requirements, establishes plans and designs for capital projects, leads special fundraising efforts, and implements construction of facility improvements and expansions.
Members
John Martin (chair), Zach Kates (deputy chair), Bill Aird, Merry Breed, Ed Goloway, Renee Martin, Bob Petersen, Richard Leach, and Cindy Steinman.
Others are welcome!
Meetings
7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, second and fourth Thursdays of each month in the parish hall.
Status
With the support of a Mustard Seed Grant from the Diocese and a generous estate gift, St. Matthew’s has completed a master plan for the renovation and expansion of our church facilities. We are underway with design of Phase 1, which will include:
- Renovation of our existing building—especially the bathrooms and kitchen
- Expansion of the parish hall to include new classrooms, as well as space for the flower ministry, Altar Guild, choir, and other groups
- Minor site and landscaping improvements
We are finalizing details to present at the Parish-wide kickoff celebration on May 1 and 2, 2010.
In the meantime, we have submitted our site plan to Loudoun County for approand have gotten initial feedback. This process usually takes longer than the building permitting process, and the goal is to have a site plan (grading) permit and building permit at about the same time.
As we move into detailed design, we will refine the design, working with our architect, engineers, and contractor The design will make space for the needs of our parish in accomplishing our mission—more space for knowing and sharing God’s love.
A later phase would include more space for our services. Our goal for this first phase is to go to construction as soon as possible—ideally later this summer—in close coordination with the upcoming capital campaign
