Spiritual Formation

Speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. - Ephesians 4:15-16 (NIV)

OUR GOAL

At Saint Matthew’s, we desire to introduce people to Jesus as Lord and Savior and to help them deepen their relationship with Him and one another. Therefore, we have programs and opportunities to help people of all ages grow in their faith, knowledge, worship, and service to others as devoted followers of Jesus.

The Spiritual Formation Committee plans the church activities to meet this spiritual formation goal. We are always looking for new members who have a heart for spiritual growth. We meet monthly from 7-9 pm, usually on the last Tuesday of each month. Meetings are in the “classrooms on the hill.” If you think this committee might be a fit for you. You are welcome to visit any meeting.

WatCH - Winter 2011

Twenty years ago the groundbreaking book The Seven Habits of the Highly Effective Person was published, and it remains a best seller even today.

While this book is a relatively new one, the principles found in it are not. For instance, long before Stephen Covey showed us the power of mental maps, King Solomon taught that As a person thinks in their heart, so he is. Before Covey even mentioned paradigm shifts, the Apostle Paul wrote, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

In the next WatCh session from January 19 through March 2, we will be looking at the vast storehouse of Biblical wisdom to discover how the seven habits of highly effective persons are taught in the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments with our usual emphasis on practical application and positive life skills. The class will be in the Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. each Wednesday during this time. We hope to see you there!
